School Activities and Programs
Lego Robotics - Students build a robot out of Lego pieces. They use the Lego Mindstorms kits to build this robot. The students program the robot to complete certain tasks. At competition, the students must let their programmed robot run a course and complete certain tasks. For each task the robot completes, the team will earn points. At the end of the competition, the robot with the most points wins.
Sea Perch - Sea Perch is an underwater robot design competition. Students construct a robot that must be able to function under water. The day of the competition, students must move their robot by remote control through an underwater obstacle course and then through an underwater orbs challenge. Both activities are timed and have other challenges that allow them to gain points along the way. Sea Perch teaches several important engineering skills and is an excellent STEM program for our students.
Speech - Students in grades 6-8 practice and compete in different public speaking categories. Some categories include speeches the student must memorize, speeches they may read from a binder, with or without a partner, or impromptu speeches based on current events and their thoughts and opinions.
