This year's 5th & 6th Grade Boys Varsity Basketball Team consists of 5th Graders Isaac Weinzapfel and Aaron Droste, and 6th Graders Seth Kruse, Austin Carr, Jacob Fleming, Chase Hoehn, Bennett Kempf, Hayden Knapp, Taylor Riddick, and Michael Elpers. Head Coach is Don Fleming and Assistant Coach is Dan Kruse. The 5th & 6th Grade Varsity Team is currently 4-3 on the season. They competed in the St. John's tourney, winning thier first game and then losing the second. This year's 5th & 6th Grade Boys Reserve Basketball Team consists of 5th Graders Noah Renfroe, Sam Bassemeier, Nick Beudel, Andrew Folz, Tyler Moll, Patrick Helfrich, and Blake Hoffman and 6th Graders Patrick Donovan and Matthew Cox. Head Coach is Scott Graves and Assistant Coach is Rich Graves.
The 5th & 6th Grade Girls Varsity Basketball Team consists of fifth-graders Megan Wildeman, Haley Winiger, Jessica Weinzapfel, Briana Schoettlin, Mikail Parkinson, Maria Folz, and sixth-graders Samantha Weinzapfel, Grace Berry, and Kayla Schoettlin. They are coached by Kurt Weinzapfel and Brian Weinzapfel. The team posted two wins this week-end, moving them to 4-1 on the season.
The 7th & 8th Grade Boy's Reserve Basketball Team consists of seventh-graders Jack Weinzapfel, Aaron Costlow, Joe Ritter, Drew Winiger, Alex Butts, Johnny Goebel, Alex Schoettlin, Joe Folz, Nathan "Twigz" Schapker, Philip Stoltz and Eighth Graders Wade Hoffman, Andrew Schmitt,and Jacob Riedford. They are coached by Derek Paulin (457-2214) and Nathan Wildeman. The 7th & 8th Grade Boys Varsity Basketball Team consists of Seventh-Grader Caleb Tedford and Eighth Graders Eric Wildeman, Austin Knapp, Hunter Owen, Ryan Wannemuehler, Zack Fulton, Zack Schapker, Garrett Scott,& Isaac Tekoppel. They are coached by Derek Paulin and Nathan Wilderman. Their games are held at Mater Dei High School.
There are two 7th & 8th Grade Girls Teams being coached by Bud Wildeman this year. His assistant coach is Audrey Goebel. The 7th & 8th Grade Girls Varsity Basketball Team consists of seventh-graders Emily Pfister, Beth Fischer, Laura Greenwell and eighth-graders Erin Wildeman, Katie Wildeman, Alyssa Weinzapfel, Anna Weinzapfel, Emily Droste, and Kristy Martin. Come see them in action!!! The Mater Dei Cub 8th Grade Girls Team play at Evansville Basketball Academy (EBA) on Sundays. The Cub Team consists of Alexa Buetre, Katie Wildeman, Erin Wildeman, Alyssa Weinzapfel, Anna Weinzapfel, Kendall Altstadt, Casey Jochem, Brianna Dickerson, and Danielle Norman.
Shelly McFall, the head coach for MD Girl's Softball , is trying to get an MD Feeder League going for next Spring. She is currently talking with the Rural Girl's Board to see if this is possible. She would like to know how many people would be interested in a program like this. The ideal MD Feeder League for Softball would consist of at least one instructional and one competitive league, with the possibility of rolling the competitive teams into travel teams for each age level. The primary age level being considered is grades 6, 7, & 8. Most likely U12 and U14 teams. Coaches - keep in mind that this is a feeder program for MD, so Shelly McFall would like all coaches to be on the same page and on board with her coaching techniques in order to make an easier transition into high school softball.
